Cold porcelain is an air-dry clay made primarily from starch (corn flour) and PVA glue. Unlike polymer clay, it does not need to be baked in an oven and can be shaped and cured at room temperature.
Why We Use It
Most home crafters are familiar with polymer clay, which is made from plastic-based materials. We chose cold porcelain because it is made largely from renewable starch and has a lower plastic content, making it a more sustainable option for creating handmade jewellery.
Cold porcelain is not a perfect material and still has an environmental footprint. However, we believe that making thoughtful choices and continually improving our practices is an important step towards reducing waste and creating more responsible products.
A Lesser-Known Craft Material
Cold porcelain is widely loved by many artisans around the world for its delicate finish, lightweight feel, and versatility, but it remains relatively unknown compared to polymer clay.
By supporting Honobono Jewellery, you're also helping to support awareness of alternative craft materials and small-scale handmade artistry. Thank you for being part of our journey.
